The areas are mostly residential and retail in nature and are accessed by Huguenot Road, Robious Road, Chippenham Parkway, Buford Road, Midlothian Turnpike and Forest Hill Avenue. Powhite Parkway and Route 288 provide the primary interstate access to these areas of Chesterfield. Bon Air was once considered a retreat from the City of Richmond during the summer months due to its higher elevation and rolling topography. Many homes along Buford Road were built prior to 1900. Parts of Bon Air were annexed by the City of Richmond in 1970 amid great controversy. Midlothian’s origin is directly related to the coal mining industry established as early as the 1700’s. This influence of the coal mining lasted well into the late 1800’s when the area largely shifted to a commuter town. Development in the Midlothian area has sometimes been affected by hidden or abandon mines. Experiencing tremendous growth along both of its primary arterials, the Robious Road corridor boasts many subdivisions of luxury homes as does the Midlothian Turnpike corridor. Salisbury, Founder’s Bridge, Charter Colony, Reeds Landing and Tarrington are some of the primary subdivisions that comprise the residential component of Midlothian. Northern Chesterfield also boasts some of the finest schools in Chesterfield County according to recently published SOL scores. |
