It is the only neighborhood considered to be a part of "Downtown Richmond" that is located south of the River. Originally a part of Chesterfield County, it acted as the county seat until the early 1900's when it officially merged with Richmond. The area is recognized as a "historic district" and therefore is enjoying robust development momentum. Due to its initial industrial focus, the district is dominated by warehouses and other industrial structures. These are now rapidly being converted to some of the most architecturally engaging residential and commercial properties in the city. |
